What is a Chemical Peel?
This non-invasive, skin-resurfacing facial treatment at our Buffalo med spa involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate and remove its top layers. This process promotes the growth of new, smoother, and healthier skin. Chemical peels are effective for addressing a variety of skin concerns, including wrinkles, acne, hyperpigmentation, and uneven texture. Chemical peel often penetrates deeper than microdermabrasion.
- Light Peel: A light chemical peel is ideal for refreshing dull skin and smoothing out minor imperfections. Using a mild acid solution, such as glycolic or salicylic acid, this treatment gently exfoliates only the outermost layer of the skin.
- Medium Peel: A medium peel penetrates deeper into the skin to target more noticeable concerns such as fine lines, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation. Often using trichloroacetic acid (TCA), this peel removes both the outer and middle layers of skin, triggering a more intensive renewal process.
- Deep Peel: A deep chemical peel is the most intensive option, designed to address advanced skin concerns such as deep wrinkles, pronounced sun damage, and significant scarring. This treatment uses strong chemical agents, such as phenol, to penetrate multiple layers of skin and stimulate dramatic regeneration beneath the surface. Because of its strength, this peel requires more recovery time and must be performed with careful monitoring, but the payoff is major.
