What is a Massage?

A massage is more than just a luxury; it’s a therapeutic experience that can improve both your physical and mental well-being. By applying targeted pressure and rhythmic movements to the muscles and connective tissues, massage therapy helps release tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation throughout the body. At Dr. Buffalo MedSpa & Surgery, we offer a wide range of massage styles —from deeply restorative medical massages to indulgent hot-stone experiences —each designed to meet your unique needs. Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or simply looking for an escape from the stress of everyday life, our licensed massage therapists can create a session tailored specifically for you.

Who Are the Best Candidates for a Massage?

Almost anyone can benefit from massage therapy, regardless of age or activity level. It’s an excellent choice for people who experience chronic tension, work long hours at a desk, engage in physically demanding jobs, or participate in intense athletic training. It’s also ideal for those recovering from injuries, dealing with muscle imbalances, or experiencing stress-related symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, or poor sleep. Even if you simply want to feel more relaxed and rejuvenated, massage can be a valuable addition to your wellness routine. Certain types of massage, such as prenatal massage, have specific guidelines, so our therapists at Dr. Buffalo MedSpa & Surgery will always discuss your needs and ensure you’re matched with the safest, most effective treatment option.

What Are the Benefits of a Massage?

Massage therapy offers a long list of benefits that go well beyond relaxation. Physically, it can help reduce muscle soreness, increase flexibility, improve blood flow, and support faster recovery after workouts or injuries. It can also help reduce inflammation, boost immune function, and relieve tension headaches. Mentally and emotionally, massage promotes the release of endorphins, your body’s natural “feel-good” chemicals, which can improve mood, reduce stress, and encourage better sleep.

What’s the First Step?

Booking a massage at Dr. Buffalo MedSpa & Surgery is simple and stress-free. Start by calling our office or using our online scheduling system to choose your preferred service, duration, and therapist. If you’re not sure which massage type is best for your needs, our front desk team can guide you based on your goals, whether that’s pain relief, relaxation, or targeted recovery. For new clients, we recommend arriving a few minutes early to complete a brief intake form so your therapist understands your preferences, areas of tension, and any medical considerations before your session begins.

What to Expect From a Massage

When you arrive for your appointment at Dr. Buffalo MedSpa & Surgery, your therapist will review your goals for the session and discuss any areas you’d like to focus on. You’ll then be given privacy to get comfortable on the massage table, draped appropriately for your comfort and modesty. Depending on the style you’ve chosen, your therapist may use light, soothing strokes for relaxation, deeper pressure to release stubborn knots, or specialized techniques to address injury-related tension. Many clients feel relief and relaxation during the session itself, and the effects often last for hours or even days afterward.
